Building Safety for practitioners
2 days
By the end of this 2-day course, learners will be able to:
1. Assess building safety risks - understand the steps required to effectively identify, assess, and manage building safety risks in line with sections 83 and 84 of the Building Safety Act 2022.
2. Conduct a HAZID using the What-If Technique Confidently undertake a hazard identification (HAZID) using the what-if technique to identify potential hazards and assess their impacts on building safety.
3. Explain the bowtie risk model and its components Understand and articulate what a bowtie diagram is, including its key elements (hazards, threats, controls, and consequences).
4. Create and utilise a bowtie risk model Build a bowtie risk model based on safety assessments, and use it to visualise, understand, and manage building safety risks.
5. Apply the concept of ‘all reasonable steps’ Grasp the meaning of the term "all reasonable steps" within the context of building safety management and apply it in decision-making to ensure compliance and safety.
6. Develop a comprehensive safety case Create a safety case in accordance with section 85 of the BSA 22, using the claim-argument-evidence (CAE) framework, articulating and managing building safety risks through structured and defensible arguments.
Building Safety 101

Cascade Risk Management is proud to bring you Building Safety 101. This course consists of five modules designed to prepare you and your peers to uphold the requirements of The Building Safety Act 2022.
Learners will review the requirements of sections 83 and 84 of the BSA, exploring risk, risk perception and how we can better understand it. The final module is a live virtual session in which we will discuss and consolidate on the concepts covered, using a relevant case study.
The course is delivered via our LMS at https://www.academy.cascade-risk.com/courses/buildingsafety101. The course is delivered in easy to digest, 20 minute sessions with the culminating module taking 1 hour.
